Field Engineering Technician II - Albany, NY
Job Description
The position involves the support of the system engineering team in the deployment of the State of New York Statewide Wireless Network (SWN). Job responsibilities will include the Installation, Optimization, Maintenance and Repair of OpenSky, P25, NetworkFirst, and other Conventional and Trunked Radio Systems fixed infrastructure. Tasks will also include supporting the installation, programming, troubleshooting and repair of mobile radios, consoles and other peripheral devices. In addition, the Field Technician (FT) will ' Perform inspection and certification of installations (mobile radios in vehicles, base stations at tower sites, etc.) utilizing RF test equipment and computer networking skills. ' Perform preventative maintenance inspections and correct deficiencies, providing a full set of maintenance documentation. ' Maintain and update network management devices. ' Setup and maintain the Albany Office SWN lab system. ' Frequently communicate with customers, external and internal engineers and technicians to resolve system issues. ' Provide assistance in the configuration of OpenSky network, installation of software, analysis of data, and performance of necessary upgrades and corrections in both the lab and in the field. ' Consult customers on system modifications and enhancements. ' Assist in the training of customers on the proper operation of the system and peripherals. The successful candidate should possess excellent technical and interpersonal skills and have demonstrated the capacity to function effectively in a team oriented environment both within and beyond his/her work group. Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work well under schedule pressures. The position requires the candidate to relocate to the M/A-COM SWN project headquarters in Albany, NY. Frequent travel, primarily within the State of New York can be expected. Due to the sensitive nature of the State of New York project, the candidate will be required to pass a simple background check conducted by the State. Ability to lift 60 lbs and move heavy equipment. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record. Holder of FCC General License or equivalent certification
Job Requirements
The candidate should possess a Technical School degree and have a minimum of 4 years experience in the field of electronics. The applicant must have experience installing and maintaining commercial two-way conventional and trunked radio systems. The FT should be skilled in microwave operation and maintenance. Proficiency with IP technology and networking systems is essential. The FT must have demonstrated mechanical ability and proficiency in the use of hand tools. The FT must have an understanding of basic electronic concepts and ability to read schematics and other complex technical drawings. The FT must have a familiarity with all tools and test equipment associated with the installation, testing and troubleshooting of IP network based radio systems. Strong computer skills are required; familiarity with computers and job specific software.
